Tate Twist

A Tate twist of a p-adic Galois representation V is the tensor product of V with an integer power of the cyclotomic character. This character chi_p is defined by the action on p-power roots of unity: g(zeta)=zeta^(chi_p(g)). For a representation over a finite extension E/Q_p, write

 V(n)=V tensor _EE(n),

where E(n) is one-dimensional with action g|->chi_p(g)^n. Negative integers use inverse powers. In cohomology this notation records the corresponding change in Galois action and weight convention.

The regular odd two-dimensional Fontaine-Mazur modularity formulation allows a Tate twist of the representation attached to a classical cuspidal eigenform.
