Hodge Structure

A rational Hodge structure of weight n is a finite-dimensional rational vector space V together with a decomposition

 V tensor QC= direct sum _(p+q=n)V^(p,q),

where complex conjugation interchanges V^(p,q) and V^(q,p). A morphism of Hodge structures is a rational linear map whose complexification preserves these types. The cohomology H^n(X,Q) of a smooth projective complex variety provides an example through its Hodge decomposition. A sub-Hodge structure is a rational subspace on which that decomposition restricts. The Hodge group is the smallest rational algebraic group containing the Hodge circle, which acts on V^(p,q) by e^(i(p-q)theta). For weight 2 with dimV^(2,0)=dimV^(0,2)=1, the structure is of K3 type.
