Variation of Hodge Structure

A variation of Hodge structure of weight n on a complex manifold S consists of a rational local system V and a decreasing filtration F^p by holomorphic subbundles of V tensor QO_S. Every fiber is a Hodge structure of weight n, and the associated flat connection satisfies Griffiths transversality,

 del F^p subset= F^(p-1) tensor Omega_S^1.

A constant Hodge structure gives a constant variation (Huybrechts 2016). Families of smooth projective varieties supply geometric examples through their cohomology local systems.
