Hodge Circle

A Hodge circle associated to a rational Hodge structure V is the image of the unit circle under its group homomorphism h into the general linear group GL(V_R), where V_R=V tensor _QR (Huybrechts 2016; Sutherland 2019, pp. 229, 232). On the complex vector space V tensor _QC, the convention used here gives, for v in V^(p,q),

 h(e^(itheta))v=e^(i(p-q)theta)v.

The Hodge group is the smallest algebraic subgroup of GL(V) over Q whose real points contain this image (Huybrechts 2016). If V^(p,q)=0 whenever p!=q, the Hodge circle is the trivial group.
