Topological Graph Theory

Topological graph theory studies graphs in relation to topological spaces, especially graph embeddings in surfaces. In these embeddings, edges are arcs whose only intersections are common endpoints, whereas a graph drawing may also contain crossings. Topics in topological graph theory include graph embeddings, cellular embeddings, graph genus, rotation systems, graph covers, and voltage graphs (White and Beineke 1978, Gross and Tucker 1987, Mohar and Thomassen 2001).
