Riesz Transform

The n-dimensional Riesz transform with respect to a Radon measure mu on R^d, for integers 1<=n<=d, is the vector-valued singular integral with kernel x/||x||^(n+1). For a bounded, function f with compact support, its hard truncation at radius epsilon>0 is

 R_(mu,epsilon)f(x)=int_(||x-y||>epsilon)(x-y)/(||x-y||^(n+1))f(y)dmu(y).

Normalization by a dimension-dependent constant is also common. For n=d and Lebesgue measure, this gives the classical Euclidean Riesz transforms up to that normalization. In one dimension the kernel is 1/x, connecting the transform to the Hilbert transform.

For Ahlfors-David regular measures, the David-Semmes problem asks whether a uniform bound

 sup_(epsilon>0)||R_(mu,epsilon)||_(L^2(mu)->L^2(mu;R^d))<infty

implies uniform rectifiability.
