Time Series Lag


A time series lag is a displacement backward in time. For a series X_t, the value X_(t-j) occurs at lag j relative to X_t, where j is a nonnegative integer. The lag order of a model is the greatest lag that the model includes.

Time series lags are used to describe serial dependence and to relate current values to earlier observations. A negative lag is sometimes called a lead.
