Radius of Comparison

The radius of comparison of a unital nuclear C^*-algebra A with tracial states is the infimum of r>=0 for which

d_tau(a)+r<d_tau(b) for every normalized trace tau==>a≾b,

where a,b are positive elements of finite matrix algebras over A and ≾ is Cuntz comparison. The rank function is d_tau(a)=lim_(m->infty)(tau tensor Tr)(a^(1/m)), using unnormalized matrix trace. If no finite comparison bound exists, the radius is infinite. This invariant measures how large a trace gap suffices for comparison.
