Lex-Plus-Powers Conjecture

The lex-plus-powers conjecture asserts that the lex-plus-powers ideal J supplied by the Eisenbud-Green-Harris conjecture also bounds the graded Betti numbers of the original quotient. For a homogeneous ideal I subset= S=k[x_1,...,x_n] over a field k containing a ring regular sequence of homogeneous polynomials of total degrees 2<=a_1<=...<=a_c, it asserts the existence of such a J with the same Hilbert function and

 beta_(i,j)(S/I)<=beta_(i,j)(S/J).

The inequality is required simultaneously for all integers i>=0 and j.
