Grothendieck Spectral Sequence

The Grothendieck spectral sequence computes the right derived functors of a composition of left exact functors F:A->B and G:B->C between Abelian categories. Assume A and B have enough injectives and that R^qG(F(I))=0 for every injective object I of A and every q>0. For an object X of A, it has

 E_2^(p,q)=R^pG(R^qF(X)) => R^(p+q)(G degreesF)(X),

with p,q>=0, and induces a finite filtration on each object R^n(G degreesF)(X) (The Stacks Project Authors 2026). Here left exact means preserving exactness at the first two places of a short exact sequence. An object I is an injective object when the hom functor Hom(-,I) is exact, and enough injectives means that every object embeds in such an I. The Leray spectral sequence is a sheaf-theoretic example.
