Critical Value

A critical value is a threshold for a test statistic used to decide whether to reject a null hypothesis in a statistical test. For an upper-tailed test statistic T, a critical value c at significance level alpha is commonly selected from its null distribution to satisfy

 P(T>=c|H_0)=alpha,

where H_0 is the null hypothesis. Lower-tailed and two-tailed tests use the corresponding lower or paired thresholds.
