Discrete Distribution

A statistical distribution whose variables can take on only discrete values. Abramowitz and Stegun (1972, p. 929) give a table of the parameters of most common discrete distributions.

A discrete distribution with probability function P(x_k) defined over k=1, 2, ..., N has distribution function

 D(x_n)=sum_(k=1)^nP(x_k)

and population mean

 mu=1/Nsum_(k=1)^Nx_kP(x_k).
