Chromatic Splitting Conjecture

The chromatic splitting conjecture concerns the overlap X_(n,p)=L_(n-1)L_(K(n))S_p^ ^ between height-n localization and lower chromatic heights. Its weak sphere formulation asks whether the canonical unit L_(n-1)S_p^ ^ ->X_(n,p) has a homotopy retraction. A strong formulation specifies a decomposition into shifted local spheres. An ordinary finite-assembly question instead asks for membership in the thick subcategory generated by L_0S_p^ ^ through L_(n-1)S_p^ ^ in the category of E(n-1)-local modules over S_p^ ^ . These requirements retain different information about maps and attaching maps.
