t-Structure

A t-structure on a triangulated category D is a full subcategory F with F[1] subset= F such that every object E fits into a distinguished triangle F->E->G->F[1], where F in F and G in F^_|_. The orthogonal subcategory is defined by Hom(F,G)=0 for all F in F. Its heart F intersection F^_|_[1] is an Abelian category. The standard example in a derived category takes F to be complexes with vanishing positive-degree cohomology (Bridgeland 2007). Tilting changes this heart by a torsion pair.
