Virasoro Conjecture

The Virasoro conjecture in Gromov-Witten theory asserts that the total ordinary descendant potential of a smooth projective complex variety satisfies a system of target-dependent differential equations. Writing F_g^X for the connected genus-g potential, the total potential is

 Z_X=exp(sum_(g>=0)h^(g-1)F_g^X).

The constraints are

 L_k^XZ_X=0 for every integer k>=-1.

The operators use the Poincaré pairing, the first Hodge degree p on H^(p,q)(X), and cup product with c_1(TX), with cohomological parity and a specified zero-mode scalar correction. The equations are formal coefficientwise identities in genus, actual integral curve class, and descendants.
