Turk's Head Link

A Turk's head link Th(p,q) is the closure of the braid (sigma_1sigma_2^(-1)sigma_3sigma_4^(-1)...sigma_(p-1)^((-1)^p))^q on p strands, for positive integers p and q. For p=1, the braid is trivial. Here sigma_j are the standard generators of the braid group. The link has gcd(p,q) components, where gcd denotes the greatest common divisor. When this number is one, it is a Turk's head knot (Di Prisa and Savk 2026).

For the orientation in which all strands run in the same direction, Stanggassinger (2026) proved Takemura's conjectured relation between the Conway polynomials of Th(p,q) and Th(q,p). If their respective coefficients of z^l are a_l and b_l, then a_l=b_l for l=0,1 (mod4) and a_l=-b_l for l=2,3 (mod4). Takemura (2016) had proved the cases q=2 and q=3. Stanggassinger (2026) credits Claude Code with developing the proof and algorithms under his direction.
