Riesz Spectrum

A Riesz spectrum for a measurable set S subset R^d of finite positive Lebesgue measure is a frequency set Lambda subset R^d for which the exponential functions e^(2pii<lambda,x>), lambda in Lambda, form a Riesz basis of L^2(S). This relaxes the orthonormal-basis condition for an ordinary spectral set (Christensen 2016, Lee 2026).

Lee (2026) proved that no Riesz spectrum exists for

 S= union _(n>=0)[t_(2n+1),t_(2n))

whenever t_0>t_1>...>0 tends to zero. No additional relative-size condition is imposed on the intervals or intervening gaps. For example, t_n=2^(-n) gives S= union _(n>=0)[4^(-n)/2,4^(-n)), a set of Lebesgue measure 2/3. The assertion concerns this alternating class, rather than every countable union of intervals.
