A one-tailed test, also called a one-sided test, is a statistical test whose rejection region lies in only one tail of the null distribution. An upper-tailed test rejects for sufficiently large values of the test statistic, while a lower-tailed test rejects for sufficiently small values. The direction must be chosen from the alternative hypothesis before the data are examined.
