Noperthedron

The noperthedron is the 90-vertex convex polyhedron constructed by Steininger and Yurkevich (2025) as the first proved example of a nopert polyhedron. It is a centrosymmetric set that cannot pass with positive clearance, without turning, through a straight tunnel in a congruent copy of itself.

One exact construction starts with the points

C_1=1/(259375205)(152024884,0,210152163)
(1)
C_2=1/(10^(10))(6632738028,6106948881,3980949609)
(2)
C_3=1/(10^(10))(8193990033,5298215096,1230614493).
(3)

If R_z(theta) is the rotation about the z-axis through angle theta, then the noperthedron is

 N=conv{(-1)^lR_z(2pik/15)C_i:i=1,2,3; k=0,...,14; l=0,1},
(4)

where conv denotes the convex hull (Steininger and Yurkevich 2025).

The proof excludes every possible passage by covering the symmetry-reduced configuration space with regions verified using rigorous rational bounds. The construction disproves the conjecture that every bounded convex polyhedron has Rupert's property (Steininger and Yurkevich 2025).
