Moment Map

A moment map for a symplectic group action is a map mu:X->g^* whose pairing with an Lie algebra element generates that infinitesimal action through the symplectic form. With the convention d<mu,xi>=iota_(xi_X)omega, the cotangent lift of a linear action on N has

 <mu(s,p),xi>=p(xis),

where (s,p) in N direct sum N^* and the symplectic form is -dlambda for the tautological cotangent 1-form lambda. The sign convention must be matched to the symplectic form. Quotients of a zero moment-map locus with a stability condition define Nakajima quiver varieties.
