Isotropic Elasticity System

The static isotropic elasticity system balances the stress generated by a displacement field. On a domain in R^3, the strain tensor and stress tensor are

 e(u)=(Du+(Du)^T)/2, and sigma(u)=lambda(del ·u)I+2mue(u),

and the equilibrium equation is del ·sigma(u)=0. The real Lamé coefficients lambda,mu may vary with position. The conditions mu>0 and 3lambda+2mu>0 give positive strain energy. The Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator sends boundary displacement to traction sigma(u)nu, where nu is the outward unit normal.
