Graph Homomorphism

A graph homomorphism from a simple graph G to a simple graph H is a function f:V(G)->V(H) which preserves adjacency: if u and v are adjacent vertices of G, then f(u) and f(v) are adjacent vertices of H. Here, V(G) and V(H) are the vertex sets. The function need not be injective or surjective.

A proper vertex coloring with k colors is equivalent to a graph homomorphism to the complete graph K_k. The number of graph homomorphisms from G to H is denoted hom(G,H); such counts occur in the strong Roberson conjecture.
