Fock Space

A Fock space is the Hilbert direct sum of particle-number sectors built from a one-particle Hilbert space H. The bosonic and fermionic versions are

 F_+(H)= direct sum _(N=0)^inftySym^NH,

and

 F_-(H)= direct sum _(N=0)^infty ^ ^NH.

The zero-particle sector is C and contains the vacuum. The symmetric and antisymmetric tensor powers describe bosons and fermions, respectively. For a one-dimensional bosonic space, normalized occupation vectors |n> satisfy a|n>=sqrt(n)|n-1> and a^*|n>=sqrt(n+1)|n+1>. Thus a^*a counts particles, and a|0>=0. If dimH=q<infty, the fermionic sectors vanish for N>q.
