Distributional Hessian

A distributional Hessian is the second covariant derivative of a function interpreted by integration by parts against test vector fields and functions. In the weak calculus of an RCD space, a locally W^(1,2) function F has the evaluation

 H_F(Y,Y)(h)=-intdiv(hY)<del F,Y>dm-inth<del F,del _YY>dm,

where Y=del g, g is a compactly supported bounded globally Lipschitz function in the L^2 Laplacian domain with Deltag in W^(1,2), and h is a compactly supported Lipschitz function. On a smooth manifold this agrees with integrating the ordinary Hessian applied to Y twice.
