Decomposable Linear Map

A decomposable linear map, in the operator-algebra sense, is a linear map between C*-algebras that is a linear combination of completely positive maps. Four such maps suffice: T=T_1-T_2+i(T_3-T_4) with all T_j completely positive (Pisier 2020).

For T:A->B, its decomposable norm is the infimum of max(||S_1||,||S_2||) over completely positive maps S_1,S_2:A->B for which

 x|->(S_1(x) T(x); T(x^*)^* S_2(x))

is a completely positive map from A to M_2(B). Every decomposable linear map is a completely bounded map and satisfies ||T||_(cb)<=||T||_(dec) (Pisier 2020, Okayasu 2026).

Equality for every linear map l_3^infty->N characterizes an injective von Neumann algebra N (Okayasu 2026). This decomposition into completely positive maps is distinct from decomposition of a positive map as a sum of a completely positive map and a completely copositive map.
