Circular Flow Number

The circular flow number F_c(G) of a graph G is the infimum of the real numbers r>=2 for which G has a circular r-flow. Such a flow consists of a graph orientation and a real value in [1,r-1] on each graph edge, with equal incoming and outgoing sums at every graph vertex (Jafari 2026). Equivalently, one may fix an graph orientation and allow signed values whose absolute magnitudes lie in [1,r-1]. Set F_c(G)=infty if no such flow exists.

This refines the integer-valued nowhere-zero flow parameter by permitting noninteger values of r. Jafari (2026) proved

 F_c(G)<2+1/k

for every finite (4k+2)-edge-connected multigraph and integer k>=1. The connectivity threshold is optimal for this strict inequality. In particular, every six-edge-connected graph has circular flow number strictly below 3.
