Bochner-Riesz Mean

A Bochner-Riesz mean of order delta>0 and radius R>0 is the Fourier multiplier

 B_R^deltaf(x)=int_(R^n)(1-||xi||^2/R^2)_+^deltaf^^(xi)e^(2piix·xi)dxi,

initially defined for a Schwartz function f, where a_+=max(a,0) is the positive part. The Fourier transform here uses e^(-2piix·xi). The multiplier tapers to zero at the boundary of the frequency ball. The order-zero convention instead uses its characteristic function.

The Bochner-Riesz conjecture concerns uniform operator norms as R varies. The corresponding maximal operator is

 B_*^deltaf(x)=sup_(R>0)|B_R^deltaf(x)|.
