37

The number 37 is the 12th prime number. It is both the fourth hex number,

 37=1+6+12+18,

and the third star number,

 37=6·3·2+1.

The factorization 111=3·37 accounts for the familiar products 3·37=111, 6·37=222, and 9·37=333. The number also occurs in the limiting solution of the secretary problem: rejecting about 100/e=36.7879... percent of the candidates and then selecting the next record maximizes the asymptotic probability of choosing the best candidate, and that maximum probability is 1/e=0.367879....

The prominence of 37 in requests for a supposedly random two-digit number is a psychological and cultural phenomenon, not a consequence of these arithmetic properties. Veritasium (2024) discusses surveys of such choices, while a collection of coincidental appearances is maintained by Magliery.
