Ulrich Line Bundle

An Ulrich line bundle on a smooth projective variety X of dimension d, relative to a Cartier divisor H whose associated line bundle O_X(H) is very ample, is a line bundle L satisfying

 H^i(X,L(-jH))=0

for every i and 1<=j<=d. The notation denotes sheaf cohomology, and L(-jH) is the tensor product of L with O_X(-jH). The very ample divisor, which specifies the projective embedding, is part of the definition (Beauville 2018).

On a complex Enriques surface with no smooth rational curves, Borisov and Nuer (2018) related such bundles to divisor classes D: the line bundle O_X(D) is Ulrich iff (D-H)^2=(D-2H)^2=-2. Wang and Yi (2026) proved the Borisov-Nuer conjecture and thereby established the existence of an Ulrich line bundle for every choice of a very ample divisor H of an unnodal Enriques surface.
