Turán's Tetrahedron Problem

Turán's tetrahedron problem asks for the largest number ex_3(n,K_4^((3))) of hyperedges in a 3-uniform hypergraph on n vertices containing no four vertices with all four possible triples. The conjectured asymptotic value is

 lim_(n->infty)(ex_3(n,K_4^((3))))/(n3)=5/9.

A construction attaining this density partitions the vertices into three nearly equal parts X_0,X_1,X_2. Its hyperedges are the triples meeting all three parts and the triples with two vertices in X_i and one in X_(i+1), with subscripts taken modulo 3 (Keevash 2011).

The ordinary density conjecture remains open. It is distinct from the problem of determining uniform Turán density (Jeong et al. 2026).

This is problem 500 in the Erdős problems collection (Bloom 2026).
