A spade tetrahedron is a nearly flat tetrahedron with one polyhedron vertex close to an interior
point of a polyhedron edge joining two of the
other three vertices (Cheng et al. 2012,
p. 25; Hannukainen et al. 2017, p. 3).
In the degenerate limit, the other three vertices form a triangle , and the fourth lies on one of its edges . The name is used in the qualitative classification
of nearly flat tetrahedra in tetrahedral
meshes .
