Similar Polygons


SimilarPolygons

Two polygons are similar if their corresponding angles are equal and their corresponding sides are proportional. Equivalently, one polygon is the image of the other under a similarity transformation. If the similarity ratio of corresponding side lengths is k, then corresponding perimeters have ratio k and the areas have ratio k^2.

For triangles, equality of corresponding angles alone implies similarity, but this is not true for polygons with four or more sides.
