Quasitrace

A quasitrace on a C*-algebra A is a functional tau that is nonnegative on positive elements, satisfies tau(x^*x)=tau(xx^*), is linear on every commutative C^*-subalgebra, and obeys

 tau(a+ib)=tau(a)+itau(b)

for self-adjoint a,b. A 2-quasitrace also admits a quasitrace extension to M_2(A) agreeing with tau on the upper-left corner. For unital A, normalization means tau(1)=1; the corresponding matrix extension takes value 2 on the matrix identity. A tracial state satisfies these conditions, but the definition does not assume additivity on arbitrary pairs of positive elements.
