Quasinilpotent Operator

A quasinilpotent operator is a bounded operator T on a complex Banach space whose spectral radius is zero. The spectral radius formula expresses this condition as

 lim_(n->infty)||T^n||^(1/n)=0.

It does not require a power of T to vanish. For example, a nilpotent matrix is quasinilpotent: N=(0 1; 0 0) has N^2=0. Quasinilpotence is a hypothesis in one formulation of the hyperinvariant subspace problem.
