One-Phase Bernoulli Problem

The one-phase Bernoulli problem minimizes a Dirichlet energy together with the volume of the positive phase. For a nonnegative Sobolev function u on a domain Omega, the energy is

 J(u;Omega)=int_Omega(||del u||^2+1_({u>0}))dx.

A local minimizer is compared with every nonnegative Sobolev competitor of the same boundary trace on each compactly contained ball. Its free boundary is the boundary of {u>0} inside the domain. The flat one-homogeneous example is u(x)=max(x·e,0) for a unit vector e.
