Norm-Euclidean Number Field

A norm-Euclidean number field is a number field K whose ring of integers O_K is Euclidean with respect to the absolute field norm. Explicitly, for a,b in O_K with b!=0, there is a q in O_K such that

 |N_(K/Q)(a-bq)|<|N_(K/Q)(b)|.

Equivalently, for every x in K there is a y in O_K with |N_(K/Q)(x-y)|<1 (Cavallar and Lemmermeyer 2000). This condition implies that O_K is a Euclidean ring, but Euclideanity with respect to another function does not require norm-Euclideanity.

Bagger et al. (2026) determined all 58 complex cubic fields which are norm-Euclidean. Here complex means number field signature (1,1). Their negative field discriminants have absolute value at most 876. Bagger et al. (2026) report that Claude Opus 5 produced the computational solution, which they audited.
