Mutant Knot


A mutant knot of a knot K is a knot obtained from K by one or more knot mutations. The knot K itself is included when referring to its mutation class. Mutant knots are often difficult to distinguish. For instance, mutants have the same HOMFLY polynomials, and hyperbolic mutants have the same volume (Ruberman 1987). Many but not all mutants also have the same knot genus.
