Milne's Rationality Conjecture

Milne's rationality conjecture asserts that a rational Hodge cycle on an abelian variety with good reduction has rational intersection pairings with complementary products of divisors on the reduction, with the same value in the different cohomological realizations. The divisors on the reduction need not lift to the original abelian variety. This assertion concerns the value of a pairing and does not itself assert that the Hodge cycle is algebraic.

More precisely, let A be a d-dimensional abelian variety over Q^_ with good reduction A_0 over F^__p at a chosen p-adic place. For a rational Hodge cycle gamma of codimension r and Cartier divisors D_1, ..., D_(d-r) on A_0, the proposed value is a single q in Q satisfying

 Tr_l(gamma_(0,l)product_(i=1)^(d-r)c_(1,l)(D_i))=q.

Here gamma_(0,l) is the specialized class, c_(1,l) is the first Chern class, and the trace is normalized to send a zero-cycle to its degree. The equality is required for every prime l!=p in Q_l and for the crystalline realization at p after extension to the completed algebraic closure of the local field. For r=d, the empty divisor product is 1.
