Hypograph


The hypograph of a real-valued function f:X->R, where X subset= R^n, is the subset of X×R lying on or below its function graph,

 hypo(f)={(x,t):t<=f(x)}.

When X is a convex set, f is a concave function iff its hypograph is a convex set. Similarly, f is upper semicontinuous iff its hypograph is a closed set in X×R.
