Hyperinvariant Subspace

A hyperinvariant subspace of a bounded operator T on a Hilbert space H is a closed linear subspace invariant under every bounded operator commuting with T. Thus L is hyperinvariant when S(L) subset= L for every S in the commutant {T}^'. Because T belongs to its own commutant, a hyperinvariant subspace is an invariant subspace of T. The converse need not hold. A commutant is transitive when it has no common nonzero proper closed invariant subspace; in that case T has no nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace.
