A hexagonal lattice is a term used for related but distinct objects in the plane. In point lattice and packing contexts, it usually denotes the triangular lattice, whose Delaunay triangulation consists of equilateral triangles and whose Voronoi cells are regular hexagons. In tiling and board contexts, it may refer instead to the hexagonal grid, the tessellation by regular hexagons.
