Generalized Bell Polynomial

A generalized Bell polynomial is a multivariate polynomial that expresses a derivative of a function composition of any finite number of functions. For positive integers n and m and an n×m matrix A=(a_(r,j)), define the polynomials

 F_j(t)=sum_(r=1)^na_(r,j)(t^r)/(r!).
(1)

The generalized Bell polynomial is

 Y_n(A)=n![t^n]F_1(F_2(...F_m(t)...)),
(2)

where [t^n] extracts the coefficient of t^n.

For a function composition f_1(f_2(...f_m(x)...)) of n-times differentiable functions, column j contains the first n derivatives of f_j, evaluated at f_(j+1)(...f_m(x)...), and the final column is evaluated at x. Then Y_n(A) gives the nth derivative of the function composition. For two columns, it reduces to

 Y_n(A)=sum_(k=1)^na_(k,1)B_(n,k)(a_(1,2),...,a_(n-k+1,2)),
(3)

where B_(n,k) is the exponential partial Bell polynomial. For example,

 Y_2([a_(1,1) a_(1,2); a_(2,1) a_(2,2)])=a_(2,1)a_(1,2)^2+a_(1,1)a_(2,2).
(4)

Generalized Bell polynomials are implemented in the Wolfram Language as BellY[matrix].
