Disk Embedding Conjecture

The unrestricted four-dimensional disk embedding conjecture asks for disjoint proper locally flat embedded disks with prescribed boundary maps from immersed disk data and suitable algebraic dual spheres, without a restriction on the fundamental group. For an oriented four-manifold M and based surfaces, the equivariant intersection pairing lambda takes values in the group ring Z[pi_1(M)]. The input disks f_i have disjoint embedded boundary circles and dual sphere maps g_i with trivialized normal bundles satisfying

 lambda(f_i,g_j)=delta_(ij)1, lambda(g_i,g_j)=0, mu^~(g_i)=0.

Here mu^~ is the reduced self-intersection invariant, with values in the additive quotient

 Z[pi_1(M)]/<h-h^(-1),Z·1>_(add).

The conjectured conclusion preserves the induced trivializations of the boundary normal bundles and supplies geometric duals. The quotient defining mu^~ is additive, rather than by a group-ring ideal.
