Class VII Surface

A class VII surface is a connected compact complex surface X with first Betti number b_1(X)=1 and Kodaira dimension kappa(X)=-infty. It is non-Kähler, since the first Betti number of a compact Kähler manifold is even. Minimality means that X contains no smooth rational curve of self-intersection -1. The classification separates the case b_2=0 from positive second Betti number. The global spherical shell conjecture concerns the minimal positive-b_2 case.
