The center of gravity of a body is the point through which the resultant gravitational force may be regarded as acting. In a uniform gravitational field, this point coincides with the center of mass. In a nonuniform gravitational field, the force on different parts of the body is weighted by different local gravitational accelerations, so the center of gravity can differ from the center of mass.
