Bounded Projection

A bounded projection on a Banach space X is a bounded operator P:X->X satisfying P^2=P. Its range and kernel give the direct decomposition x=Px+(x-Px) for every x in X. Both subspaces are closed: the range is the kernel of the continuous map I-P. A bounded projection onto a subspace Y acts as the identity on Y.

The norm-one case is used in the definition of an injective von Neumann algebra (Pisier 2020).
