Borel Conjecture

The topological Borel conjecture asserts that every homotopy equivalence between closed aspherical manifolds is homotopic to a homeomorphism. It predicts rigidity within each prescribed homotopy class. The weaker homeomorphism-existence formulation asks only whether homotopy-equivalent closed aspherical manifolds are homeomorphic.
