Bessel Potential Space

A Bessel potential space H^(s,p)(R^n), for s in R and 1<p<infty, is the completion of the Schwartz space with respect to the norm

 ||f||_(H^(s,p))=||J^sf||_(L^p(R^n)),

where J^s=(I-Delta)^(s/2) is the Fourier multiplier with symbol (1+||xi||^2)^(s/2) when the Fourier transform uses e^(-ix·xi), and Delta is the Laplacian. The notation W^(s,p) is also used for this convention. For nonnegative integer s, it gives the usual Sobolev space on R^n with an equivalent norm. For p=2, it is denoted by H^s and has the norm

 ||f||_(H^s)^2=(2pi)^(-n)int_(R^n)(1+||xi||^2)^s|f^^(xi)|^2dxi.

In particular, H^0=L^2. The choice of a fractional Sobolev space convention matters for p!=2.
