Asymptotic Uniform Convexity

Asymptotic uniform convexity of a norm N on an infinite-dimensional Banach space X is positivity, for every t>0, of the modulus

 delta^__N(t)=inf_(N(x)=1)sup_(F in F)inf_(y in F
N(y)=1)(N(x+ty)-1),

where F consists of the closed linear subspaces of finite codimension. The subspace F may depend on the center x and on t, but must work for every indicated direction. The definition is abbreviated AUC. AUC renormability instead means existence of an equivalent norm with this property. Asymptotic midpoint uniform convexity tests opposite directions together and can hold for a norm that is not asymptotically uniformly convex (Dilworth et al. 2016).
