Arthur Parameter

An Arthur parameter supplements a Langlands parameter by an algebraic SL_2 factor commuting with a weight-zero part. For a split group over a global function field F=F_q(X), one form of this datum consists of homomorphisms phi:SL_2->G^^ and tau:W_F->Z_(G^^)(phi(SL_2)). The homomorphism phi is algebraic, and tau is a continuous l-adic homomorphism, with l!=char(F), defined over a finite extension of Q_l, unramified at almost all places, and pure of weight zero in every algebraic representation of G^^. Parameters are considered up to simultaneous conjugation by G^^. The algebraic factor accounts for nonzero weights. Diagonal specialization recovers a Weil parameter by

 sigma(w)=tau(w)phi(a^(deg(w)) 0; 0 a^(-deg(w))),

where a^2=q and the degree group homomorphism is normalized to send the Frobenius at a closed point of degree d to d.
